Research and Education Officer Kingdom Relations

What you will do
The research and education officer will provide support and collaborate intensively with the holder of the Special Chair in Kingdom Relations, Prof. Wouter Veenendaal. Specifically, the officer will contribute to three projects:
- Providing administrative and substantive support to the establishment of a new Knowledge Centre on Kingdom Relations at the Campus The Hague (based on a project grant). For this task, collaboration will occur within the project team, which, in addition to the staff member, consists of Wouter Veenendaal (project leader) and a communication and network advisor.
- Providing support to the postgraduate Course in Kingdom Affairs, which was established last year in collaboration with The Hague University of Applied Sciences. The staff member will contribute, among other things, to the organization of hybrid and online meetings of the Course, maintaining course administration, organizing excursions and events in relation to the Course, and providing logistical and process-related support to the project team.
- Providing administrative and substantive support to the research team of the Chair in Kingdom Relations itself. In addition to Prof. Veenendaal (chairholder), this team consists of three research assistants in Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten. The employee will support the project team meetings and assist with the organization of events and (the preparation of) research activities.

What you bring
- A Master's degree in the Social Sciences, preferably in Political Science, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Excellent organizational and logistical skills, and the ability to work both independently as well as in teams.
- Strong ICT skills, particularly in the organization and support of hybrid and online meetings, usually via Microsoft Teams.
- Experience with and affinity for event organization (and promotion).
- Sensitivity to cultural differences and strong social and networking skills.
- Preferably: familiarity with and affinity for Kingdom relations and/or the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom.
- Fluent spoken and written command of Dutch and English; proficiency in Papiamento/u is a strong advantage.

- An employment contract for 19 hours per week (0.5 fte), for an initial duration of sixteen months (September 2026 – December 2027) with a probation period of two months. If possible, the position may be extended. This contract falls under the CLA of Dutch Universities;

A salary between €3057 - €3985 gross per month, based on a full-time appointment (38 hours) (Scale 07);

A holiday allowance (8%), an end-of-year bonus (8,3%), and an attractive pension scheme at ABP;

Flexible working hours: as a standard, you are entitled to a minimum of 29 leave days on the basis of a full-time working week of 38 hours; you can also save for extra leave, for example by working 40 hours a week, and in this way accrue an extra 96 leave hours, or exchange 96 leave hours for a 36-hour week.
