Key responsibilities
Co-manage the LIACS research infrastructure, comprising tasks such as:
- managing and maintaining:
- complex network infrastructure (e.g., configuring firewalls, VLANs, LACP, etc.)
- advanced compute infrastructure (e.g., supercomputers, GPU machines, Slurm)
- Linux systems, including automated deployment of software installations (e.g., Ansible, EasyBuild)
- Web infrastructure (e.g., Apache, nginx, MySQL and applications deployed in containers)
- large-scale storage systems (NFS, Ceph)
- student computer workstations
- help with selecting and purchasing complex hardware infrastructure;
- assisting with installing server systems in the data center;
- data stewardship for the computer science department;
- assisting researchers and students that use our infrastructure with various questions;
Selection Criteria
- Recently completed (or soon to be completed) bachelor degree or HBO bachelor in Computer Science / ICT or a related field;
- you are passionate about working with researchers, other system administrators and students;
- you can communicate fluently in written and spoken Dutch and English;
- at least three years of experience in Linux and basic Linux system administration, preferably with RHEL, Rocky or Ubuntu;
- good understanding of computer networking: TCP/IP, VLANs and routing;
- affinity configuring OSI layer 1-3 network equipment through command line interfaces is a plus.
- experience with virtualization, containers, and large-scale deployment (e.g., Ansible) is a plus;
- experience with data management and storage systems is a plus;
- experience with data management and stewardship;
