Leiden University College The Hague (LUC) is looking for an official secretary (ambtelijk secretaris) to the Board of Examiners (0,8fte), starting date as soon as possible.

The Faculty of governance and Global Affairs is one of the seven faculties of Leiden University. Leiden University College The Hague (LUC The Hague) was founded in 2010 as the international honours college of Leiden University in The Netherlands for a select group of excellent and highly motivated students from around the world. The LUC academic staff consists of highly ambitious and international scholars recruited from top institutes across the globe, who combine excellent teaching skills with conducting innovative multidisciplinary research.

Dit breng je mee

  • Minimum level of education comparable to Dutch HBO;
  • Strong English and Dutch (mother tongue or fluent) language proficiency is required;
  • Experience as Secretary to the Board of Examiners is an advantage, but transferable skills and experience in similar positions will also be considered (demonstrating affinity with legal/regulatory issues and ability to provide policy preparatory support);
  • Strong and sensitive communication skills, able to assess complicated and sensitive cases, knowing how to deal with confidential matters;
  • Accurate with an eye for detail, able to function in a diverse, international and dynamic work environment;
  • At least five years’ work experience, preferably in a legal environment and/or Dutch Higher Education.

The Board of Examiners consists of six staff members and one external member and has an independent legal position within the College. Its tasks include: awarding degree diplomas; assuring the quality of examinations and overseeing the quality assurance of the educational programme; assessing requests for credit transfers, exemptions, external courses, course withdrawals and extensions; and overseeing the compliance with procedures, rules, and regulations, including matters of plagiarism and fraud. The official secretary is supported by an administrative assistant, who registers and files requests and decisions.

The tasks of the official secretary consists of:

  • Collecting relevant information for the Board’s decision-making, informing relevant students and staff of the decisions and monitoring the implementation of the Board’s decisions;
  • Contributing to improvement and creation of procedures and regulations based on the developments and issues that arise within the College, Faculty/University and in Dutch Higher Education
  • Informing students and staff  of the procedures and regulations within the College and monitoring their implementation;
  • Contributing to the quality assurance of examinations and the educational programme of the College;
  • Preparing and coordinating meetings of the Board of Examiners, preparing memos for the College/Programme Board and taking care of follow-up.

In addition, we offer you:

  • A one-year employment contract, with the prospect of a permanent position. The contract is governed by the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO Nederlandse Universiteiten);
  • A gross monthly salary between 3873 and 5264 Euro - based on a full-time (38-hour) position (scale 9);
  • 8% holiday allowance, an 8.3% year-end bonus and an attractive pension scheme with ABP;
  • Full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting;
  • Flexible working hours: as standard, you are entitled to a minimum of 29 days of annual leave based on a full-time 38-hour working week. You can also accrue additional leave, for example by working 40 hours per week full-time, allowing you to build up 96 additional hours of leave, or by exchanging 96 hours of leave for a 36-hour working week;
  • A wide range of flexible secondary employment benefits. For example, you can discuss taking a sabbatical or paid parental leave. Through our flexible benefits scheme, you can exchange leave days and/or salary for benefits such as a discounted sports membership or bicycle scheme;
  • Hybrid working within the Netherlands, where the nature of the work permits;
  • A home-working allowance (daily and internet allowance), as well as support for a well-equipped home workplace. You will also be provided with a laptop and mobile phone by the university.
