1 Sept – 1 March (7 months)

The Institute of Security & Global Affairs is looking for Education Support Employees to support teaching and grading in its minor programmes.

What you will do

You will make an important contribution to supporting educational activities within the minor programmes of the Institute of Security and Global Affairs (ISGA) through grading and course administration. You will work closely with our academic staff and act as a connecting link between different teams of lecturers. Thanks to your organizational skills and attention to detail, you ensure that educational processes run smoothly. You will:

 

    • Grade exams and mid-term assignments under supervision of the lead examiner
    • Support the preparation, delivery and evaluation of education programmes
    • Coordinate and provide administrative support for internships
    • Manage communication with students, lecturers and external partners
    • Contribute to quality assurance of the minor programmes

Where you will work

Governance and Global Affairs is one of Leiden University’s seven faculties. Rooted in academic tradition, our students and researchers work together with national and international partners to develop new insights and solutions to contemporary challenges at the intersection of politics, governance and international law. The faculty currently has more than 2,400 students, many of whom are international.

The Institute of Security and Global Affairs (ISGA) is an academic institute focusing on multidisciplinary research and education within the international field of Security Studies. ISGA analyses and studies issues in a coherent way, taking into account their local, transnational and global impact.

 

ISGA is based in The Hague, the third-largest city in the Netherlands, the centre of national government and the International City of Peace, Justice and Security. More information about the Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs can be found on the website.

What you bring

  • In this team, we are looking for someone who can work independently. Every job is different, so in the beginning we will devote attention to your onboarding. If some of the work activities are new to you, we will look together at what you need, and draw up a development plan.

    You are independent, structured, and a recent graduate from a relevant master programme, preferably of the MSc Crisis & Security Management, or the MSc International Relations and Diplomacy. You have a clear affinity with education.

     

    This position is a good fit for you if you recognise yourself in the following:

    • Demonstrable passion for education and affinity with an academic environment
    • Strong planning, organizational and prioritization skills,
    • Flexible to collaboration in different teams, some work experience, prefereably in project management or administration is seen as an asset.
    • Excellent command of English (C1) both spoken and written and, for a number of positions that support Dutch-taught minors strong communication skills in Dutch (C2) are also required.
    • Up-to-date knowledge of (one or more of) the academic debates in Security Studies, such as Global Affairs, Violence Studies, Intelligence Studies, and Crisis, Risk & Disaster Management

    • You are a team player and good collaborator with a positive outlook and attitude
    • You work independently, have a pro-active work attitude and are solution-oriented
    • You can balance work hours during both peak demands (grading) and calmer periods

    • You exhibit attention to detail and have excellent time management skills.

We also offer:

 

  • A temporary employment contract for the duration of 7 months. This contract falls under the CLA of Dutch Universities;
  • A salary of a minimum of € 3.382,- and a maximum of € 4.484,- gross per month, based on a full-time appointment (38 hours) (scale 8);
  • A holiday allowance (8%), an end-of-year bonus (8,3%), and an attractive pension scheme at ABP;

  • Full reimbursement of public transport commuting costs for home-to-work travel;

  • Flexible working hours: as a standard, you are entitled to a minimum of 29 leave days on the basis of a full-time working week of 38 hours; you can also save for extra leave, for example by working 40 hours a week, and in this way accrue an extra 96 leave hours, or exchange 96 leave hours for a 36-hour week.

  • Lots of options when it comes to secondary employment conditions; we can, for example, discuss options for a sabbatical or paid parental leave. Within our terms of employment individual choices model, you can exchange leave days and/or salary for benefits such as an advantageous sports subscription or bicycle scheme, and we also offer child-care options;

  • If your work allows it, hybrid working is possible within the Netherlands;

  • A home-working allowance (day and internet allowance) and attention for good workplaces. The University will also provide you with a laptop.
